Foundation:
Everything story has a beginning. The Tea Leaf Hotel began as the dream of architect Derrick Stiles. Shortly after graduating from UCLA, Derrick Stiles traveled the world; immersing himself in the diverse cultures that inhabit the globe. And within all of these seemingly alien worlds; he found a common element; a practice one that not only expressed the commonality between these cultures but also unified the individuals within their own society. It was as simple as a social gathering, around a pot of tea. Returning from his travels, Derrick Stiles sought to capture this unique expression of brotherhood. He shortly settled upon the idea of a resort, with tea as its common theme. And so in September of 1986. The tea leaf hotel was born.
