Welcome to the world of furries...
"As an adult, did you occasionally flip through those old cartoons, had a stuffed animal sitting on the dashboard of your car, or bought cereal because it has a cool tiger on the box, then you will enjoy what our fandom has to offer."
Anthropomorphic or “humanized” animals have been present since the dawn of civilization. As gods in ancient Egypt to advertised icons in modern day, every culture has adopted fanciful creatures by imbuing animals with human traits. Within the last two decades, anthropomorphic or “Furry” fandom has been recognized as a distinct fan-base in its own right. Fans are found in all corners, races, ages and creeds of the world. We are bound together from across the most daunting barriers due to our mutual admiration of these beasts in mythical and legendary stories, which simply reflect a window into ourselves.
A large number of anthropomorphics fans are employed in scientific or technical fields and a significant percentage achieved college diplomas, holding advanced degrees and fields. After knowing these erhaps, is what leads many casual observers to raise an eyebrow. “Why would someone like this be into cartoon animals? Isn’t that unusual?” If we look at our world around us, we see that anthropomorphized animals are an integral part of our culture. For example, we use them to represent political parties, exchange communication with dogs, cage tigers as pets and represent team mascots as animals. Any casual observer may be unaware that in the last forty years cartoons and cartoon animals have been relegated to all children. For example, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, their ilks were once targeted primarily to an adult audience, their productions filled with innuendo and biting political satire. Fans of anthropomorphics today simply have not forgotten those roots. The average Furry fan casts from the same mold as any science fiction or sword-and-sorcery fan because all of us imagine ourselves living in strange and thrilling worlds.
Today, Furry fandom is an artistic and literary genre practiced and enjoyed by tens of thousands worldwide. We count among our ranks as professional sport mascots, animators, cartoonists, puppeteers, artists, illustrators, and writers, as well as people who dream to communicate and walk with animals like we do. If you as an adult, still occasionally flip to those old cartoons, own a stuffed animal sitting on the dashboard of your car or buy cereal because it has a cool tiger on the box, you might as well enjoy the perks our fandom has to offer and invite you to visit any of our gatherings worldwide to see for yourself what Furry fandom is really all about.
